American Foxhound

 The American Foxhound is a lovable companion, which gets on well with children. These dogs are very curious, so owners should be careful when he's not on a lead as he may run off! He also loves to chase smaller dogs. They love to be around other dogs but can have varying reactions to strangers, some are friendly, some reserved.

 Training can sometimes prove difficult as this dog can be immature at times and can also be difficult to housebreak. They can also be disobedient, which can be a problem. try to make sure he gets lots of attention, as he may be destructive otherwise. He loves to exercise, so an active owner is best suited to this energetic dog. It is advised that the owner have some previous experience before buying one of these dogs.

 The American Foxhound has a smooth coat, which can be black, tan, white, red or lemon and can also be a combination of these colours. The height is around 21-25 inches and the weight 60-90 pounds. This is an athletic dog, with an alert expression.

Groom around once a week as this dog does not shed very much. Wipe the coat occasionally with a damp cloth to keep it in good condition. Make sure that his ear canals are clean and dry.
The American Foxhounds' life expectancy is around 10-12 years. Health problems can involve deafness and bleeding disorders. He is a descendant of the English Foxhound and was bred to hunt in packs.
