American Water Spaniel

This dog is known for being intelligent, and a great companion. It is very energetic and is a lot of fun to be around. Its is suitable for both experienced and inexperienced dog owners, and they seem to be very good around children and pets they have been brought up with. It is essential that you have the time to provide this dog with lots of attention, as he may become destructive if neglected.

 This alert and protective breed makes an excellent watchdog. He does not like to be teased and likes to bark and whine. He can be reserved around strangers and can be possessive with toys and food. Although he can be stubborn he can be very responsive to correct training methods. He loves to fetch and is best in a house with a fenced garden.

The height of the dog is around 15-18 inches, and the weight is around 25-45 pounds. This breed has an oil coated coat, which provides them with their water resistance. The cat is sometimes curly and coloring includes liver, brown, or dark chocolate. The American Water Spaniel has smooth hair on his face and head and curls on the rest of his body. The ears and big and droopy and he sports an eager and intelligent expression.

  Brush his coat on a weekly basis to remove any dead hairs and prevent matting. Trim any stray hairs whilst grooming, and make sure that you ensure that his ear canals are clean and dry, especially if he has been in the water. Try also to clip the hair around his feet and the top section of the ears.

The lifespan of the American Water Spaniel is around 10-15 years. Health conditions and disorders that are associated with this breed include cataracts, thyroid problems, epilepsy, and seizures.

The American Water Spaniel originates in the United States,but nobody can pinpoint its direct origins. It is thought that this breed may descend from the the Curly Coated retriever, the Old English Water Spaniel, and the Irish Water Spaniel. The American Water spaniel was bred to be water retrievers and to retrieve ducks, geese, and rabbits.
