Dog Training Profile for your dog from one of our expert trainers

Toy Spaniel

In the past, this elegant little dog was coveted by Royalty and Nobles and appeared in many portraits with aristocracy. The dog was rare and considered very precious by many such as King Henry III who was amongst one of the breeds admirers. He was sought out due to his miniature size, funny personality and beautiful butterfly-like ear shape that earn him the name "Papillon".

The continental Toy Spaniel will perform all sorts of tricks for the attention of his master whom he is always eager to please. He loves to play games and is very obedient to his owner, however, this little charmer can sometimes be quite boisterous when he is not given the attention he believes he deserves! He is a perfect playmate for children because of his playful nature but caution children not to be too rough with him as his delicate joints and limbs could easily break. He loves to play outside, and contrary to popular belief, is a very hardy little creature who doesn't mind getting muddy and wet.

The only grooming that needs to be done is the prevention of knots forming in his fringes, particularly his ears, with the aid of a soft brush. His coat only needs to be brushed occasionally and teeth and nails kept in check from time to time.

This dog may seem a fragile but in reality it is a sturdy little creature who can live up to 14 years old. The only health problems are with individuals that are too small and light (under the weight of around 1.5 kg).
